Preferred Provider Organization plans

HealthPartners offers Medicare Advantage plans in six Midwestern states, serving about 1.2 million people. Some are HMOs, while others are Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans. PPO plans are typically bundled with a part D plan. However, not all counties have PPO plans.

HealthPartners offer health plans to individuals, small employers, and families. These plans must meet state standards for geographic access. HealthPartners may file a waiver if they do not meet these requirements. These plans cover a range of services. Individuals can choose from a health plan’s network of doctors, hospitals, and ancillary services.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans offer lower costs when you visit healthcare providers that are part of a network. Patients can choose a primary care doctor in the PPO’s network, but can use any other provider they choose. However, they may need a referral for out-of-network care. A PPO plan’s online provider directory allows you to search for providers by name, specialty, or ZIP code.

Cost-sharing

In cost-sharing, people who share health insurance policies pay for some of the costs of health care. They each pay a portion of the deductible and coinsurance, and the insurer pays the rest. If you don’t have health insurance, you must pay for uncovered services. This can be expensive, but it’s possible to get some help by taking advantage of health care cost-sharing programs.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas recently extended its COVID-19 cost-sharing waiver for members. This benefit applies to both in-network and out-of-network telemedicine services. Additionally, the company has expanded its coverage of telemedicine counseling with in-network behavioral health providers. These new programs will continue through July 25, 2020.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina has made a commitment of $593 million to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes $318 million to improve access to care and $275 million for cash-flow challenges. In addition, Blue Cross NC will waive COVID-19 related cost-sharing for in-network providers.
